How to find how the Predicted Values are Calculated

Modified on Thu, 6 Apr, 2023 at 3:19 PM

This guide can be used to find any of the predicted values just follow the steps but use the numbers and authors of the predicted value you want to know how it is calculated.

To find how predicted values you need to:

First open Blue Cherry

Then find a patient that has completed a test that you wish to find Predicted Equations for, in our example we use CPET.

Once you have found a patient that has done a CPET you should have a drop down (circled), you need to change this to Thresholds and you should then have a screen that looks like below.

After you have changed it to thresholds you should have a table at the bottom of the screen with all the predicted values of the patient (column called Pred.).  You can see all of the predicted values have numbers in brackets next to them which  correlates to the author of the reference.

As you can see VO2/Kg has the number 9 in brackets; if you hover over print and click on print preview (which is highlighted in yellow)

Once you get the print preview on your screen if you scroll to the bottom of the page it will have the number in brackets and then next to the number it will have the name of the author of the reference. E.G (9) Wasserman/Hansen.

Once you have found out the author of the reference you can minimise the print preview and go back into Blue Cherry and go into set up which is located at the top of the screen with the two cogs next to it.

When you are in the set up menu you need to press on advanced.

When you are in the advanced setting you need to click on parameters, then reference values. then you need to find Wasserman/Hansen.

When you have clicked into Wasserman/Hansen you need to find the predicted value you are looking for in this example I am looking at VO2/Kg so I will have to scroll all the way down to the bottom of Wasserman/Hansen and press on VO2/Kg(highlighted in blue) then you need to click on setup(circled).

Once you have then clicked into setup you should have a new menu open and then you need to look for reference value, this is the equation used to create a Predicated Value, there may be a parameter reference used to create the equation, and in order to work that out you will need to remember the parameter reference, in this case my number is circled.

Once you have found this number you will need to cancel out of all the menus you have opened back to the main Blue Cherry screen rather than click accept just in case you have changed something by accident. When you are back to the main Blue Cherry screen you then need to go to help (circled).

When you have clicked at the very top of the drop down you need to press on Blue Cherry which is the very first option on the drop down. Once you have clicked on blue cherry from the drop down help menu you need to open the PDF document, you should come to a page like this.

To find the formula easily you can press Ctrl+F and a search menu will appear; you need to type the parameter number in there that you found before. As mine was 506 I have typed it into the search bar and a selection will appear on the right (circled) and you then need to press on it and it will bring you to the parameter description.
